The SeaHoss - A Quirky shipwreck cottage

An idyllic cottage by the sea in Cornwall and a unique chance to stay in a little piece of genuine Cornish History. This charmingly historic house was built in the 17th Century from the timbers of an ancient shipwreck washed up on a nearby beach and is an iconic and much-loved treasure of Mevagissey.

Originally an old fish cellars and ship's log for Mevagissey Harbour, this unusual and quirky property is now a luxury holiday cottage which is available for short breaks and holidays by the sea.

The house has fabulous harbour, lighthouse and ocean views from every window. The contemporary galley kitchen is in the old pilchard cellars with the original oak barrel and pilchard press smoking chimney integrated into the decor and the knarled ship's timbers are evident throughout the interior. The house is heated by eco friendly infra red glass panels and is warm and cosy in the winter so a great place to spend the festive season or enjoy a winter storm watching break..

A highlight of the day is watching the fishing boats bring home their catch which is then available to buy on the quayside, either hot with chips or to take home and cook.

The SeaHoss was refurbished in 2014 and we have tried to keep the integrity of the property whilst showcasing the history. The house is beautifully furnished with an eclectic combination of the historic and the contemporary, with wall lights from the salvage of a romantically historic ocean liner from the 1930's and nautical antiques hidden throughout the rooms.

In the galley kitchen, we have sourced a rare porthole window from a 1950s cargo ship to showcase the ancient oak pilchard oil  barrel beneath the floor. The super comfy 6ft master bed overlooks the sea and there is an uber cool wet room with slate & porcelain walls with a rain shower.

Bathe overlooking the ocean in a pretty slipper bath, wrap up in the oversize fluffy dressing gowns to plan your adventures from the maps in the Morning Room or take a bottle of sparkling vintage Cornish cyder out onto the SeaHoss's own harbour terrace to watch the fishing boats bring home their daily catch or the sunset behind the lighthouse.

The SeaHoss is perched overlooking the ocean in the heart of the historic and beautiful working fishing village of Mevagissey. The local people are friendly & welcoming and the village is simply beautiful. We ask that guests support the local businesses in the village.

We offer truly incredible views and glorious Cornish coves & coastal walks from the doorstep plus complimentary ice creams and crabbing kits -  The SeaHoss is a true seaside Cornish Escape in every way.
